The Impress Project has been behind the establishment of the (proposed – as of July 2014) Independent Monitor for the Press – a media regulator “with teeth”.
Aidan White of the Ethical Journalism Network was made chairman of its initial appointments panel in July 2014. Read more
The introduction on the project website reads:
“Do you want independent press regulation with teeth? So do we.
We believe in the freedom of the press to tell us what’s really going on in our society. But we don’t believe in journalism which ruins people’s lives just to sell newspapers. That’s not press freedom. It’s bullying.”
